WHY? OUR BIG QUESTIONS!

  • Do you want to have our agricultural landscapes bereft of multi-generations of families?
  • Do you want to see agriculture become a mostly corporate, non-family pursuit?
  • Do you believe in a truly regenerative and invigorating future for agriculture in Australia, New Zealand and across the world?

The world’s best farmer, Polyface Farms‘ Joel Salatin returns to Oceania in February-March 2014 for a 6 city seminar series & book tour organised by Bendigo-district farmers & farm planners Lisa Heenan & Darren Doherty of HeenanDoherty. The series is named after Joel’s latest book, ‘Fields of Farmers‘ and is all about inspiring a new generation of farmers (and older) who are looking for new directions and want to feed the future.

Joel will be joined by his son, Daniel Salatin and daughter-in-law Sheri. 31 year old Daniel manages Polyface Farms, the best known farm in the US and from its 1000 acres services over 4000 families, restaurants and retail outlets within a 3 hour ‘Foodshed’. Daniel’s wife Sheri is Polyface Farm’s Marketing Director and manages her role whilst remaining a ‘stay-at-home’ mum of three active children.

WHERE?

Together this dynamic trio will deliver the ‘Fields of Farmers’ series to audiences in Auckland (NZ/Aotearoa), Taree/Wingham (NSW), Hobart & Launceston (TAS), Adelaide (SA) & Margaret River (WA). The focus of these seminars will be around reinvigorating agriculture and engaging farmers of all ages, including those new and existing to the possibilities that abound in this vital industry on which we all depend.

The Salatin’s story & Polyface Farms’ proven techniques have inspired many thousands of Australasian farmers (and consumers!) to understand that you don’t need a lot of capital to get farming and that ‘You Can Farm!’ whilst helping to regenerate families, farms, landscapes and the food system.

Ticketed attendees to these seminars will receive a copy of Joel’s latest book ‘Fields of Farmers’ and Joel will be available for signings throughout these events. BOOK NOW!!

A man who truly walks his talk is a must-see wherever he goes with his capacity to communicate the means by which consumers can engage with farmers & how farmers can take control of not just production but also succession, processing, distribution & marketing.

Daniel Salatin is the son of Joel & Teresa Salatin, and is the Manager of Polyface Farms Inc. As the third generation on Polyface farm in Swoope, Virginia, he has grown up in the family business.

Polyface services more than 4,000 families, 10 retail outlets, & 50 restaurants through on-farm sales & metropolitan buying clubs with salad bar beef, pastured poultry, eggmobile eggs, pigaerator pork, forage-based rabbits, pastured turkey & forestry products through relationship marketing.

As a seven-year old he started a pastured rabbit enterprise, which has had its ups & downs but continues today. Starting the rabbit business gave him first hand experience with marketing, processing, research & development, & the costs of a new business.

Today Daniel is fully employed by the farm & spends his days orchestrating animal movement, scheduling daily tasks & apprentice training.

Sheri Salatin is the marketing director at Polyface Farm and stay-at-home mum of three children. Sheri is passionate about clean food and enjoys working the land along side her husband, Daniel.

Sheri was influential in getting the buying clubs up and running and now oversees 25 drop locations throughout Virginia and Maryland with over 4,000 families. The buying clubs are nurtured under her direct oversight and she is the go-to person for all questions about marketing to metropolitan areas.

Sheri spends her days juggling marketing, website maintenance, blogging, motherhood, and farming.
